Storynote, LLC ("Storynote", "we", "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you visit our website, join the beta waitlist, or use the Storynote iOS application (including TestFlight builds).
By using Storynote, you agree to the practices described below. If you do not agree, please do not use the website or app.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide
We may collect information you provide directly to us, including:
- Email address (for the beta waitlist or when creating an account)
- Name, username, and profile photo
- Photos, captions, stories, notes, reactions, comments, and other content you upload or create within Storynote
- Feedback submitted through the app, surveys, or other communication channels
1.2 Automatically Collected Information
When you visit our website or use the Storynote app, we may automatically collect:
- Device information (such as device model and operating system version)
- IP address and general geographic region derived from IP address
- Usage data (such as screens visited, features used, and in-app interactions)
- Log data used for debugging, security, and performance monitoring
- Crash logs and diagnostic information used to improve the reliability and stability of the app
- Photo metadata, including capture date and time and location data embedded in photos you upload (EXIF data). Capture time is used to sort photos chronologically within stories. Location data may be used to generate a place name (such as a city or neighborhood) that is stored alongside the note in Storynote.
1.3 Cookies and Tracking Technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies on our website to help operate and improve Storynote. In particular, we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our site and to improve the experience.
Google Analytics may collect information such as your IP address, browser type, pages visited, and time spent on pages. To learn more about how Google uses data, please visit Google's Partner Sites policy.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and improve the Storynote website and app
- Deliver and personalize in-app experiences
- Send beta onboarding emails, product updates, and important service notices
- Respond to your questions and support requests
- Monitor usage and analyze trends to improve performance and reliability
- Display and store a location name derived from photo metadata to provide context within a story
- Detect, prevent, and address security or technical issues
We do not sell your personal information.
3. How We Share Information
We may share your information with trusted third parties that help us operate Storynote, such as:
- Cloud hosting and database providers (for example, Firebase and Google Cloud)
- Analytics providers (such as Google Analytics)
- Email and communication providers
These providers are only authorized to use your information as necessary to provide services to us and are not permitted to sell your data.
We may also disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Storynote, our users, or others.
4. User-Generated Content
Storynote allows you to create and contribute to collaborative stories, including photos, notes, captions, comments, and reactions ("User Content"). You retain ownership of your User Content. However, by uploading User Content, you grant Storynote a limited license to store, process, and display it as needed to operate and improve the service.
You are responsible for ensuring you have the rights to the content you upload and that it does not violate the rights of others or applicable law. If your content includes images or personal information relating to other individuals, you are responsible for ensuring you have obtained any necessary permissions or consent from those individuals.
5. Photo Library, Camera, and Notifications
The Storynote iOS app may request access to your device's photo library, camera, and push notifications in order to provide certain features, such as adding images to stories or receiving updates about activity on your stories.
- Photo Library & Camera: Used to let you select or capture photos to include in your stories.
- Push Notifications: Used to send updates about story activity, such as new contributions, reactions, or invitations.
You can manage or revoke these permissions at any time through your device settings.
6. Data Storage & Retention
We store data using secure third-party providers, including Firebase and Google Cloud services. We retain your information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the service and for legitimate business purposes, or as required by law.
If you request to delete your account, the account will first be marked for deletion and scheduled for permanent removal. During this period, your account and personal data will be retained for up to 30 days before being permanently deleted from our systems. This retention window allows you to cancel the deletion request and recover your account if the request was made in error.
After the retention period expires, your account and associated personal data will be permanently deleted from our active systems. Certain limited information may be retained for a longer period where necessary for legal obligations, fraud prevention, security purposes, or to resolve disputes.
7. Account Deletion
You can delete your Storynote account directly from within the iOS app by navigating to Settings → Delete account & data. When you submit a deletion request, your account will be scheduled for permanent removal.
After submitting a deletion request, your account will remain in a recoverable state for up to 30 days. During this period you may cancel the deletion request and restore access to your account. After the retention window expires, your account and associated personal data will be permanently deleted from our systems.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have certain rights under applicable privacy laws, including state privacy laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). These rights may include the ability to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information
- Request deletion of your personal information
- Request a copy of your data in a portable format
- Object to or restrict certain processing activities where applicable
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
- Delete your account directly from within the app

9. Children's Privacy
Storynote is not intended for individuals under the age of 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under 18. If you believe we have collected information from an individual under 18, please contact us so we can remove the data.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If the changes are significant, we may provide additional notice, such as by email or in-app messages.
